As most of you are aware, this fine actress that played the lead in "Mujeres A Borde..." had some sort of falling out with Almodovar, causing him to never use her again in any of his movies. Does anyone know what happened??

OK it's in Spanish- but basically says that they are reuniting for his next fil called "volver." The feud is hard to find out. All I have been able to gather is that it had something to do with the Oscars the year "Women on the Verge" was nominated. Maybe there was some jealousy? Carmen won the many best actress awards for that film. -

Fri, September 23, 2005 - 4:34 AMNothing would make me happier than to see Carmen Maura and Pedro Almodovar reunited. I think both of their best work has been together. -

Mon, October 24, 2005 - 4:45 AMI think that's my favorite of her roles. She is just so totally there in that role. She starred in a film recently called LA COMUNIDAD (The Commonwealth), and she's still got it.

Mon, October 31, 2005 - 7:26 PMI think the feud had something to do with the fact that he invited someone else other than Carmen to attend the Oscar ceremonies with him when the film was nominated.

Tue, November 15, 2005 - 8:25 AMCould it really have been something as petty as that? I think I may have actually remember reading that, but it seems like there must have been more going on than that. -

Sun, February 19, 2006 - 6:17 AMit could have been the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak...
also, an official Oscar attendee can only invite one other guest...
and in the movie world, it's an insult not to be invited...

Re: Carmen Maura
Wed, February 21, 2007 - 4:44 PMI took a class on Almodovar at my university sponsored by someone who knew Almodovar personally, and according to her, the falling out was indeed due to Oscars when "Mujeres al borde..." was nominated Pedro was supposed to go to the awards with Carmen, but instead stood her up, and went with Bibi Andersen, a famous Spanish transvestite who had also appeared in his movies, and he did so for the sensationalism he knew it would cause. obviously this humiliated Carmen, who was not only stood up, but was the leading lady in "Mujeres" and (imho) probably the actress crucial for the success of many of his films. I'd be pissed off too, so I don't blame her, but I'm glad they've patched things up.
